A history in the making...
Citizens of Hillsboro have been advocating for a dog park for quite some time now. There were individuals contacting the city, and even a group called "Operation Hillsboro Dog Park" was formed by some concerned citizens advocating for the need of such an area in our community.
The city was listening, but was having trouble finding just the right location. After a great deal of time and thought, a location was agreed upon. The Parks and Recreation department of the City of Hillsboro put together a small focus group of local citizens who had been advocating for a dog park. Many of our original volunteer group members were part of that focus group. As a group, we worked with the city in helping to design the park and come up with reasonable rules. We also invited the general public to some open house meetings in order to get even more input on both the park design and regulations.
Now, the city is working on implementing the plans and making the dog park a reality. As a volunteer group we are working hard at helping with the park itself, event planning and fundraising. We are getting set up so that we can accept tax deductible donations and planning the grand opening festivities.
We plan to focus on the dog park right now, but we also want to branch out into the community further over time. We plan on being involved in enhancing the lives of pets and pet owners in the Hillsboro community.
In the meantime, please check back as there will be updates on the progress of the dog park. We will be taking photos along the way, from ground breaking through the grand opening and more!
